As a Welsh Government funded college, they are able to offer a vast range of  fully funded apprenticeships and subsidised short courses.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are no longer just the domain of school leavers. They are a principal route by which employees of all ages, at all levels in an organisation, and from all sectors can gain qualifications, progress themselves and add value to their employers. Whilst larger organisations pay a levy into an apprenticeship ‘pot’, the fully funded apprenticeships are available to employees in any size business.
Apprenticeships themselves start at introduction level and go right through to ‘degree-equivalent’ level, depending on the employee’s previous experience, qualifications and capability. The range of apprenticeships available is also quite staggering, and includes the following:

  • accountancy
  • advice and guidance
  • business administration
  • business improvement techniques
  • customer service
  • digital analytics
  • digital application support
  • digital learning design
  • IT user
  • social media and digital marketing
  • leadership and management
  • hairdressing
  • hospitality
  • retail

Many others exist but the above give a flavour of those relevant to the MTA perhaps. The IT and digital courses seem particularly popular, so I’ve included some information sheets on these. It goes without saying that similar can be made available for others but I didn’t wish to overload the information.

Short Courses

As much as apprenticeships provide tremendous value and recognised qualifications, they may not suit everyone. As an alternative, the College also has access to many other forms of funding that mean that a large number of shorter courses relating to the above topics can be offered at significantly subsidised levels.

Mandatory Training

Businesses have many obligations in law relating to their safe undertaking, such as health and safety or fire awareness. Given that they are legal requirements, these are not subject to subsidy, but GCS Training’s rates are still extremely competitive and the range of courses wide reaching. Occasionally, the College will access funding for special promotions for things like food hygiene or first aid that can be rolled out to its clients.

In summary, GCS Training is a one-stop shop for most training requirements, much of which can be delivered at significantly reduced rates to other providers.
