We had funding in 2023 and 2024 for events that finished in 2024 so we had to apply for a grant and have received some funding towards the event this year from MCC.
It is the biggest and most loved event in the Mumbles calendar …so it needs to develop and carry on.
We need to look to the businesses to help support the event. We also need to secure a few good quality sponsors / partners. Maybe partnering with MCC in a more structured way if they are interested.
This year we will ask for a contribution of £55.00 to help support the event costs.
This is a voluntary contribution and can be less or more depending on what the business feels it’s input could or should be.
Also, what the business feels they benefit from the event or the benefit to the area and fellow businesses from an income and footfall perspective.
It’s be running for 4 years with no financial input from businesses so a small price to pay realistically.
We openly encourage ALL businesses to get involved even if you’re not on Newton Road.
Book a stall – No charge for promotion or activity related to your present business i.e promotional stalls, bring your promotional publicity.
Promote your business outside your shop – just let us know for legal and insurance reasons.
We want you to be involved – it’s ultimately to promote YOU and the coming festive season.
We are happy to help you be involved.
*if you are creating an income stream secondery to your basic business there will be a charge to operate outside the shop front – again we need to know what you have planned for insurance and safety reasons
Be it business support, financial input, help on the day – it all makes the event more sustainable.

We used to get the local Businesses to contribute £35.00 for this and we have 50 trees we fit each year. We only ever had 30 + businesses who would contribute. The balance of the costs would be covered by applying for a grant from MCC (not always succeseful) or contributions from epm Marketing who helped to fit the trees and support the labour costs to cover the losses.
We try to put all 50 trees up in place, even if the business is closed or doesn’t want to contribute to the costs, as it looks so much better with rows of trees lit up rather than gaps everywhere.
If you really don’t want one let us know then we wont place one.
The lights are battery operated and so they are never as strong as electric powered lights and street lights. This is the confines of our budget.
Ultimately, we would like them to be powered as it was back about 10 years ago – and renewed festoons. We have spoken to MCC on numerous occasions but budgets didn’t fit the purpose.
We are still arequesting for permanent, power lights form MCC….
They gradually stopped working without maintenance or renewal of the damaged ones. These where fitted by MCC years ago, but neglected.
Ultimately, we would like them to be re fitted and powered as it was back about 10 years ago – fully renewed festoons. We have spoken to MCC on numerous occasions but no there’s never a budget
The future is tough. Costs increasing every year. Do we need them? We think so.
We need to look to the businesses to help support the trees and lights. Maybe partnering with MCC in a more structured way if they are interested. Or idealy hand over the trees and lights provisions to MCC.
